Robert Frederick Aldous

Robert Aldous received such an education as the common schools of his vicinity could afford, and at the age of seventeen made Fen Stanton, Huntingdon, his place of residence. There he learned carpentering. He was baptized a Mormon on 23 December 1849. Six months later he was ordained an Elder, and soon after was appointed president of the Fen Stanton Branch.

Robert Aldous came to America about 1851, in company with his wife and daughter; took up a temporary residence in Saint Louis, Missouri; then continued his journey to Salt Lake, arriving on 14 September 1853 in the Claudius V. Spencer company. He stayed in Salt Lake about a month, then moved with his family first to Ogden, then to Bingham's Fort. In early spring 1861, he relocated to Huntsville. He supervised the building of three bridges in Ogden Canyon, helped build the first log school house in Huntsville, and supervised the construction of a stone school house at the same place. He was one of the first school teachers in the town, and for five years was water master, serving in both positions without compensation. In the Church he has held successively the offices of Elder, Seventy and High Priest.

George Parkin Aldous, born in Fen Stanton, 30 October 1836; died in Ogden, 13 February 1918; buried in Ogden, 15 February 1918. Married Christiane Magdelina Torstensen, in Huntsville, 24 December 1865. Chrisiane, born in Logster, Aalborg, Denmark, 13 January 1848, came to Utah with her sister and sister's husband in 1864. They settled in Huntsville, where Christiane met and Married George Aldous. There they had five children: (1) Georgiana, born Nov. 1866, died an infant; (2) Mary Ann, born 17 March 1868; married William McFarland, 18 July 1894; (3) Magdaline C., born 16 March 1870; married Hans F. Peterson, 19 June 1895; (3) George, born 20 March 1872; married Ethel Cowan, 6 February 1897; and (4) Martha Elizabeth, born 22 April 1874, married Edward S. Green, 13 June 1900. Following the birth of his fourth child, George relocated with his family to a site five miles west of Ogden. There he had (5) Johanna, born 5 May 1876, married Charles C. Bihler, 16 February 1904; (6) Robert T., born 10 April 1878; (7) Clara A., born 12 June 1880; (8) Joseph H., born 23 July 1883; (9) Alfred E., born 18 November 1884; (10) Edward C., born May 1887; (11) Mabel E., born 29 March 1890, married Philip Slater, 5 October 1908.

Georgiana Maria Aldous, born in Fen Stanton, 5 August 1838; died in Bingham's Fort, 30 October 1858. Married Martin Harris, January 1855. Had one child, Emer M., born 6 August 1856; married Hannah M. Poulter, 5 January 1883, and Louisa Kearns, 1895. On 3 April 1859, Martin Harris married Louisa Sargent, by whom he had six children. Martin settled at Harrisville in 1851, where he planted the first crop and was the first presiding elder. He was a member of the Salmon River Mission in 1857; a member of the Nauvoo legion (territorial militia), and a missionary in the Eastern states in 1876-1877. He died 14 February 1888.

William and Margaret resided in Fressingfield, where they had various properties, some or all of which William had inherited from his father Robert, who died in 1560. The inheritance included the family dwelling with adjoining lands, called Bourneys, with a portion of the home reserved for the use of Robert's widow during the remainder of her life. William also received an enclosed field, called Bardenes, and a major portion of a farm, called Cotwyns. Additionally, he inherited his father's horse mill, with stones and other appurtenances; four milk cows, and a bay mare. William's mother lived until 1576, William having provided her with the various items she needed, as stipulated in his father's will.

In his will, John names several children of his brother, Robert; of brother Thomas's children he named sons Francis and John, daughters Anne Aldous and Elizabeth Keble. Of said nephew Francis, he named Francis's wife Sarah and their son, Francis. To nephew Francis he gave Chepenhall meadow (in Fressingfield) and a tenement in Harleston, Norfolk. John named his wife's first husband, Robert Gooch "deceased" and the Gooch children: Elizabeth Gooch, Finett Smythe (husband John Smythe and their children), Afra, Nicholas, Thomas, and James Gooch. Thomas Warner, son of Nicholas Warner, born in Fressingfield, Suffolk, England, abt. 1430; died in Wingfield, Suffolk, England. Grew up in Fressingfield; spent some adult years in nearby Wingfield. Deeds give Wingfield as his residence in 1452 and 1478; Fressingfield in 1502 and 1503. A Thomas Warner of Wingfield prepared his will 24 Feb 1504, naming daughter Alice and son John. This Thomas could be Johan's father, if he omitted her from his will because she had already received her portion: further evidence is, however, required. See Hyde, NEHGR, 150:477.

Nicholas Warner, a carpenter, born in Fressingfield, Suffolk, England, abt. 1400; died in Fressingfield, 1477. Fressingfield deeds include: 18 Dec 1427, John Levald gave Nicholas Warner, John Fox, and William Delanges of Fressingfield 4 acres of land in Fressingfield; 31 Jul 1429, Robert Noyes, William Warner of Fressingfield, John ...let of Dickelborough, and John Jay of Nedham gave Nicholas Warner of Fressingfield a messuage [house, outbuildings, and yard] etc. containing three roods [one-fourth acre]; 17 Aug 1442, Thomas Cook of Wingfield gave Nicholas Warner a messuage with a piece of land; 30 Oct 1452, Robert Noyes of Fressingfield gave Nicholas Warner of Fressingfield, Thomas Cook of Wingfield, and Thomas Warner of Wingfield, a messuage, built upon, called Krichotys in Fressingfield.

In his will, dated 20 Nov 1476 (probated 14 Jun 1477), Nicholas Warner requested burial in the Fressingfield churchyard. He made bequests to the High Altar of that church and for repairs of the same, to the chapel of the Blessed Margaret, and also to the monastery of Friars Minor, Norwich, for the celebration of 30 masses; the residue he gave to Thomas Warner "my son of Wingfield and James (Jacobo) Cunwald of the same, my executors."
